The Brisbane House is a rare treat! It’s a charming place listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, noteworthy for two reasons. First, it was built in 1868, in a distinctively tall and skinny form, its stone carved from the nearby bluff. Second, the man who built it was William Henry Brisbane, an ardent abolitionist from the deep south. Our award-winning restoration incorporates modern comforts and sensitive contemporary design so you can experience Brisbane House for yourself—it can accommodate up to ten of you. The home is also a warm, beautiful showcase for art by internationally-known Black artists. Come and stay in any season. Let Dr. Brisbane’s vision and courage inspire you!
